Sing to God a brand-new song, because God has done many wonderful things.

Play a trumpet or a horn! Join the rivers and mountains in singing and

praising  God. (Psalm 98)

This week I had the privilege of teaching some simple songs with the preschool.  Oh my goodness, it was wonderful.  I  love how the teachers and aides were joining in to learn the songs so that they can reinforce the songs during the rest of the school week.  I have decided to teach them some lovely songs each week.  Thanks to the teachers for asking me to do this.  They are just so cute and sincere.

All the songs that we have in our textbooks are fun and have creative ways to teach  singing and theory for our students.

I spent time with the Kindergarten classes this past three weeks and have just loved the special time with them.  Last week i played a beat on a bongo drum and they individually came up and played it back to me.  The other thing about these kindergarten students have a love of singing of songs that they learned before.. Oh my gosh, you should see how many actually get up in class and sing alone in the front of the class.  I think I have a class of some "little Hams" and I am going to take advantage of that.  They could actually do their won variety show at the end of the school year.

Passing by the music room you will find the Grades K and Grades 1 singing their favorite songs:The Scat Song, I Know and Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly and a Grizzly Bear Song.  We continue to practice songs that will be sung at Eucharist  that week.3rd Graders have those songs that are singing games that they can play at recess.  Some of these songs really make me smile becase they are those old time favorites that we have sang in our child that these little ones need to learn.

Grades 4, 5, and 6  have been learning about rhythm.  They also did well in singing songs as a canon. This week we had the song Side-by-Side and the students we performing body percussion movement with a partner.

Grade 8  students are also studying rhythm and steady beat in class. We seemed to have to work on a lettle self control but I hav enjoyed having them in class and they will accomplish great things in class.  Clapping rhythm beats and learning how to accent a beat within a song were are challenges this week.  What a great time we will have as we enter more into the classroom texts.

Sometimes life comes as a song unsung--waiting to be played, begging to be sung, gently inviting the touch of a kindly hand or the voice of a caring friend. The mystery of a song begs to be shared. I, Deborah, was born with a song in my heart and I am pleased to be called by God to sing God's praises at All Saints School.

I was born in a small town in Southeast Missouri. My parents, Boodles and Muriel, were the proud parents of three girls and two boys. They sacrificed so much to send us to St. Denis Catholic School in Benton, MO. After high school I attended St. Louis University and earned a BA in Elementary Education.  In 1996 I received a Masters of Ministry from Seattle University. I currently hold a Director of Religious Education certification in the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

I am so fortunate to have a wonderful husband, Gordon. We reside in a home in Marthasville, MO with our affectionate dog, Sadie. We always look forward to spending time with Tami and Josh, our children, who live away from home.

This year begins my 28th year in Catholic education. During my years of teaching I have taught grades 2 through 8 in Illinois and Missouri. I previously was the Director of Religious Education at St. Catherine Laboure and All Saints. I returned to All Saints in 2002 and became the proud teacher of the 5th grade. In January of 2008 I left the classroom to assume the duties of the Coordinator of Religious Education and became a member of the Parish Leadership Team at All Saints. It was an easy transition for me because of my commitment to this school, my admiration and respect for the teachers and staff, and the love in my heart for the children and families of this parish.

This year our school theme is: You are the Voice of God... God Is Here. How appropriate for me because I am aware that once again I am being called to let God's song (voice) be sung through me as I minister in this wonderful place where God and people come together to pray and worship. I am so fortunate and so blessed by God.
