Welcome to the Computer Learning Center!

The computer curriculum at All Saints is very project based.  There are computer skills we want the students at each grade level to learn, and we teach those using projects based on what is covered in the homeroom classes.  We use a variety of programs to create our projects, among them are Kid Pix and Print Artist, as well as Microsoft Word,  Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher.  Students often get a Computer grade as well as a Science or Religion grade on any given project.
We have two teachers in the computer lab, Mrs. Dutrow teaches on Monday and Tuesday, Mrs. Hecke teaches on Thursday and Friday.  Depending on your child's schedule, they may have one of us or both of us as teachers.
The students receive two grades each day in class, one for Effort and one for Conduct.  They also receive grades on Projects. The Projects might be a one day assignment in the lower grades or an assignment that spans several weeks in the upper grades.  The Project grades are weighted based on the amount of classtime spent on the project.
We are looking for a few parents (or grandparents!) to help in the CLC each year, especially in the Primary grades.  No special computer skills are required, we will teach you on the job!  The class schedule and a sign up sheet will be in the September school newsletter.  Please consider helping in your child's class, or in any other class that fits in your schedule.
Don't forget to send in your old ink and/or toner cartridges.  There is a red container in the gym lobby, or you can send them into the Computer Lab with your students.  We earn cash for technology support, and help keep the old cartridges out of the landfills as well!  A few parents collect them for us at their offices.  Thanks for your support.
We would like to give a huge THANK YOU to the Knights of Columbus Council 1587.  They gave us a generous grant which allowed us to purchase 27 flat screen monitors for in the classrooms.  Now all of the computers in the building have flat screen monitors.  We appreciate the Knights continued support of technology improvements at All Saints.

Eighteen years ago, when I started teaching at All Saints, the Computer Learning Center consisted of sixteen Apple II computers with green monitors! I am proud to have been a part of the growth of technology at All Saints. With 28 computers in the lab and another 40 throughout the building, we have come a long way.

I grew up in Arlington Heights, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago (go Cubs!) and graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (go Illini!) with a B.S. in Elementary Education.  I taught a year in Chicago and then married and relocated to St. Louis.   I have a great love of science and math and spent a number of years teaching both subjects at the junior high level at Atonement Lutheran, Our Lady of Loretto, Incarnate Word and Sts. Joachim and Ann schools. When the opportunity to teach in the Computer Learning Center at All Saints was presented, I jumped at the chance to take on the challenge. I have taken additional college credit and computer courses every year including several summer classes at Stephens College. In 2005 I was certified as an Intel Master Teacher.

I am an avid reader and my idea of a perfect vacation involves a book, a lawn chair and a beach. I enjoy gardening and each year more of my yard changes from grass to flower beds. I do lots of sewing and crafts and I love to shop for bargains on eBay! Every summer I enjoy riding many miles on my bike on the Katy Trail. My grown children both live out of state, so my husband, Stephen, and I like to spend time traveling to visit them in San Francisco and northern Iowa.

I have been blessed to be able to represent All Saints School  for several years as a part of the parish mission  trips to Belize. Working with the Mayan children in the remote villages of southern Belize is a life changing experience.  I never cease to be amazed at the generosity of people who have so very little.   I enjoy sharing these experiences with the students at All Saints.

Teaching in the Computer Learning Center at All Saints is always an adventure. Watching the students explore the world of technology is exciting and challenging. I always tell people that I have the best job in the school!

The path my life has taken since marrying Steve over 30 years ago is not one I would have predicted, but what an enjoyable journey it has been!

After graduating from Southeast Missouri State University with a combined B.A. Degree in Elementary Education and Speech Pathology, I interviewed at a little school in St. Peters that was led by a Sister Lillian called All Saints. I lived in Bridgeton then, and not wanting to make that ‘long ride’ across the river, I turned down the position and instead began my teaching career at St. Blaise. After three great years there and the birth of my first son, Danny, I said goodbye and moved to this side of the river. I was fortunate to be able to team-teach in the 3rd grade at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and did so happily until my second son David was born.

I was blessed to be able to stay home at that point, and thoroughly enjoyed my ten years as a “stay-at-home” mom!  By the time my third son, Robbie was ready to enter Kindergarten, we had moved again and I was elbows deep in volunteering at their school--coming full circle back to All Saints! Luckily for me, after helping in the Computer Lab, I was in the right place when a position came up and I jumped right in. I felt very blessed to be teaching at the school where my children attended, and believe that is a tribute to how much I value what All Saints provides, educationally and spiritually. The importance that is placed on technology at our school is beneficial to our parents, our staff, and especially to our students as they grow into our 21st century world.

My sons are mostly grown now, and if I find myself with some time on my hands, I love to read, garden, and dabble in digital photography.
